We landed in Germany in a storm with winds up to 160km per hour. It was really ruff for the last hour. And Sarah lost her lunch as they say. Poor kid! And even driving home on the autobahn felt scary. So I thank you for your prayers. I slept until 3pm local time. I could sleep more. The jet lag is going to kill me. But it is good to be home!

My beautiful mom is 75 years old today. Sarah and I will be boarding our flight is about 10 mins. We want to say happy birthday! We love you and miss you! We are on our way home. We tried to get bumped but the flight is not full. But we believe God has a will, and we asked...he said no. So here we go. Please pray for a safe trip.

Sarah and I slept until 4am US time on the first night. I got up and downloaded a children’s Bible in German and we listened to that for a few hours before we got up. Then Rick drove us down to Oregon. On the way down we stopped to have breakfast with my niece and her 4 kids. They are very well behaved and beautiful kids. Each one is very talented. It's spring break in Oregon. The road was very full on the trip down to Corvallis. But I really enjoyed having that time alone with my brother. He is the most amazing person! We stopped near Salem to have a milkshake. It was one of the types where you have a car hop. Sarah thought that was so cool! We arrived at my parents’ house around 4:30pm. My sister was also there and we had a good visit before we had to sleep. My dad is not doing really well. Everyone is concerned for his health. He sleeps badly and has trouble staying awake during a conversation. My mom is his primary care giver. She is also exhausted. On our 2nd night in the US we could only sleep until 3:30 am. So again we listened to the kids Bible and tried to rest until 6am. On Sunday we went to my sister’s house for a pot luck. I got to see my niece Carmen. She had just arrived in from New York. I have not seen her for many years! And it was nice to see many other faces as well! And last night we slept until 5am. But Sarah has gone back to bed. Jet Lag really is not fun! My dad is not doing well. So please pray for him. I'll see my sisters again today. My brother Rick has to go home today. All the visits settle down after today, and then I'll have more time for my parents. I have a big family. And it is wonderful seeing them all.

I just checked Sarah and me in for our flight to America. So hopefully everything is going to work. The Lufthansa pilots are on strike. But tomorrow they will be flying the international flights. So if they have airplanes to fly, hopefully we will still go on our trip. It would be sad if we could not come. Nicole and I bought allot of food for the family to eat when I’m gone. Juergen really only cooks pizza and eggs. But Nicole is a good cook and will be able to keep them all alive.

I was thinking of chicken names. I like the names of these sisters… Elinor , Marianne, and Margaret Dashwood Elizabeth, Jane and Lydia Bennet And if I could have a 7th chicken I would call her Lady Catherine de Bourgh Maybe we just need to forget Lydia. Who wants a stupid silly chicken? I thought we could name the coop “Barton Cottage”.

The last time I took Sarah to America she was only 4 years old. She had been with us for 4 1/2 months and she had RAD (Reactive Attachment disorder). I needed to keep her in a routine. That made her feel somewhat safe. And she was not really attached to me. She still cried for hours every day. Jürgen was the only one she trusted. But Philip was her 2nd best friend. For this reason I brought Philip with me on this trip. I had to go to clear up adoption/ visa issues. On September 19, 2007 (9 days before our trip) I wrote “Sarah cried again when I picked her up from the kindergarten. At least she stayed in her car seat. I brought cookies and yogurt drink. She would not stop crying until after we got Philip (my poor nerves)! I offered Philip the cookies and drink first. Then I asked Sarah if she wanted some too. She said yes, and I said OK...just stop crying! We made this calendar together this afternoon. It's sort of like an advent calendar. I taped small pieces of candy for each day leading up to the day we travel to Grandma & Grandpas house (9 days). Then we made another calendar to take with us. With this calendar we will mark the days until we return home. Sarah has no concept of time. I'm hoping this calendar will help her grasp the time we go...and the time we will return! I think the daily kindergarten is also helping. She is disappointed to go, but she will come back just like I said. I'm thinking about my own relationship with God. The longer I know him, the more I see him act faithfully. The longer I know him to be faithful, the deeper my trust. I'm praying about this trip. I cannot trust in the character or behavior of Sarah. I hope she will learn to trust me. I do believe that good or bad, God will give me the help I need to get through it! I trust him!” Another thing I did was make a story book (23 pages long). In this book I explained to Sarah what we would be doing, and what she could expect, and that we would come back to her papa. Nicole drew the pictures. I read this book to her every night for a month. When we got to Oregon, my mom met us at the airport. Sarah remembered her from our time together in China. And the trip went really well. She felt loved by her big new family.

Good News. The director of Sarah's school is allowing her to miss a week of school and travel with me to America next week. It took me all morning to find her a ticket. And so Sarah will come with me to visit the family! More luggage space! She wants to learn how to crochet. She also wants to cook with grandma, and see the new Disney movie Cinderella. Let's call this a Birthday gift to grandma. She was only 4 the last time she traveled to America. I was younger too!

Juergen is working on our taxes, so I’m looking at ways to spend the refund (just kidding).
