The US Army has a grade school in Heidelberg I hoped might be an answer for Philip. They teach in English and even have special education. I called them today, and they told me I would need to pay $18,000 for Philip to attend their school...if they have a place for him! $18,000!!! Boy they must have a great school! I am so depressed! I also got e-mail from an expert on home schooling in Germany. Sometimes Germany will allow Americans to home school, if they are here for a short period of time (2 years or less). I've lived here for over 10 years, and own a home here. I do not think they will exclude me from their (and I mean this in the most respectful way) stupid ban on home schooling! I feel trapped and I also feel so lost! I need an answer. What am I suppose to do? There is no good answer. He needs a great deal of personal attention. He will never make it in a "normal" class room. The Germans stick all their "problem" kids in a school together and "teach" them at a very slow pace. Translated...all the kids with bad language and bad behavior are stuck in a school with kids that have learning problems, babysat for 8 years and then sent out on the street with no prospects of any employment what so ever! They do not make any attempt at helping them maintain grade level. They hope their students can get jobs as window washers in the end. I have nothing against widow washers, but He can learn! He just needs extra help, not lower expectations! God please help us...we need a way!
Why not start with an IBC and cut a hole for the door? You could build closed laying boxes into it, and something for the chickens to roost on. Put some straw or saw dust on the floor. You could add vents to the side for air. If it sat inside a chicken run that you can walk into, the chickens could be safe, dry and happy. I have an extra IBC. Maybe this could be my chicken house? I bet I could even plant the outside of it with mud and grass for extra insulation and good looks.
